Touche George Dobell

Derbyshire = parasites?
Surrey - dysfunctional?
Mark Nicholas = Pratt

I am intrigued by the player cap idea- we managed until the late 60s on 15-18 Players a season; and we have some tough funding years/decades to come, I am sorry to say- one's where funding streams will dry up and where there will be more demands on our money.

Mark Nicholas has shot himself right in the foot- this is not Aussie; and the Aussie equivalent would be to tell Tasmania and maybe even South Australia that they would be losing their FC status- I look forward to him selling that one in the Australian press!

I remember a few years ago being grateful for our links with Derbys. and Leics. and our friendship with the Sussex boys. We will need that- we will need to stick together and beat this threat from London people who have never even visited the grounds they seek to demonise.

Great article.

On Hampshire : As their own accounts put it "the Group continues to rely on the support of its bankers."

Derby's Chief exec : "I just ask the question: why has this come up now? [Mark Niclarse's article] Is it because of the debts incurred by the Test Match hosting grounds? Is that why some want to see fewer counties?

"Perhaps, instead of a salary cap, there should be a player cap. Perhaps each county should only be allowed to register 18 players. The 20th guy on Surrey's staff could be just what we're looking for at Derbyshire.

That's a great idea !!

"But whatever happens, I'm not going to pick a side just to please some prat in London.

Chris Adams : "Surrey won one game last season. So, if we win three or four this time, I'd say that showed considerable progress. Are there splits in the dressing room? Well, I wouldn't believe everything you read on internet message boards! Hope he reads this one !!

I know Surrey have a bit of a reputation. There's a lot of jealousy out there, isn't there? (NO, not jealousy) And we seem to have a label. (Yes - "Slurrey". Thats a polite one) We're accused of all sorts of things.

Top article by GD.

Mark Nicholas' comments seem to have motivated Derbyshire - they are 184-1 chasing 408 at Chesterfield

224 runs to get in 2 sessions

Come on the Peakites!

I'm also so glad that they are playing at Chesterfield- now an annual Festival Week.

That and Arundel seemed to be legendary grounds in danger of disappearing- I am glad that the MCC have given Derbyshire and the local council grant funding to do up the facilities at Chesterfield; and that the MCC use Arundel as a home ground in playing Tourists.

Has anyone ever been to the Arundel or the Chesterfield grounds?

They are half way there but have lost their second wicket - and thats lunch

Derbyshire must still be favourites to get there with Madsen well set and Smith, Hughes, Durston, Peterson and Goddard to come - although 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 added just 63 runs in the first innings and only Madsen and Goddard passed 20

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/counties/8777352.stm

Derbyshire have never chased 400 to win and Linley, Nel and Batty are carrying injuries

43 runs short - Unlucky - a xxxxxx good effort

Thats Surrey's first win in over a year. They still have to break their jinx of not winning a CC game at the Oval since the last fixture of 2007.

Has anyone ever been to the Arundel ?[/quote]

I scored there a few weeks ago for the Sussex Martlets . A lovely setting but a bit of a bowlers' graveyard.
WCCC last there in 1997.
