Tom Friend is 19 yo RFM ex-Hants academy, ex Cardiff UCCE grad who has been doing quite well for Bromsgrove

Intrigued as to why Wheeldon was named for this team, if he was always intended to play for the Firsts in Derby.

Pardoe and Pinner impress, as always.

David Wheeldons opportunity came about because of Jack Manuels call up to the U19's in Northampton - but we have known about this for a while.

There were no other batsmen named in the squad of 13 so it can't have been a registration issue?

Imagine the bother we'd have been in if Kervezee and Shakib had got stuck overnight in Glasgow - a completely makeshift top and middle order

Out of curiosity i popped down after work tonight. I had never seen a 2nd XI game before.

When i arrived Pardoe & Kapil were batting well together in contrasting styles. Pardoe - watchful, Kapil - buccaneering.

The crowd were almost outnumbered by the ground staff.

The Surrey team seemed to have an enormous amount to say after every ball! The wicketkeeper appeared to be the worst affected and made Paul Nixon look like a shy retiring sort. The atmosphere reeked of a teenage gang. There was some comically poor fielding - the worst offenders seemed to be showered with abuse by their own team mates. One lad came in for some enormous stick for allowing a 2. The next ball he allowed an even softer single!!! Later Patel gently pushed a ball to cover - where the fielder did a great deckchair impression, folding up to let the ball gently by & to the ropes.

Pardoe drove a little uppishly to be caught at point - he seemed to be unconvinced over something. I couldn't tell. Maybe he thought it didnt carry - or maybe disappointed, as he had clearly grafted. Choudhury got what appeared to be a terrible lbw from a young spinner - the umpire took an age, whilst the keeper jumped up & down. He actually jumped up 4 times. On the 4th jump the umpire seemed to cave in and raised his finger.

Patel came in and appeared to edge one behind. The umpire gave it not out - maybe evening up his colleague's error with the lbw? As the ball went back the slip cordon started shouting he said he hit it. I could only assume Patel had indicated he did get a touch

All in all quite entertaining

Who is N Patel and where did we get him from?

EDIT: Just read the teamsheet on here and he wasn't on it....the Wheeldon replacement?

Pardoe, Leach, Kapil and Blofield consistently good. Pinner clearly had an off day- it happens.

Nitesh Patel (20) was in the WCCC Academy for 3 years, and initially played his club cricket at Stourbridge. Moved to Himley for 2 seasons until joining Old Hill this season. Currently studying at Loughborough Uni. after a gap year.

He was called into this team when Dave Wheeldon moved up to the 1st team.

Had a few 2nd XI games in the past. Has also played for Warks 2nds (against Worcs) last week.

Bowls some off-spin.

We need to sign him up on the evidence of this!

I agree. I stumbled across the match and enjoyed half an hour in the sun but what a disgraceful shower the Surrey lot were.
