Great news! Another five years at least!

"Alexei Kervezee Extends Worcestershire Contract

"20 year old right hand batsman, Alexei Kervezee, has signed a contract extension with Worcestershire CCC which will keep him at the Club until the end of the 2015 season.

"Kervezee joined the Club as a 16 year old and has become a regular 1st XI player during the current season. He qualifies to play for England in late 2011 and continues to play for the Netherlands on a regular basis.

"Director of Cricket, Steve Rhodes, says 'Alexei is developing into a very fine cricketer and is one of the young talented players we want to keep at this Club for a long time. We are delighted he sees his long term future with us.'

"Alexei Kervezee says, 'Since arriving in Worcester four years ago, I have really settled in well and am grateful for the opportunities Worcestershire has given me to forge a career in first class cricket. In return I want to commit my future here and be part of what I think is a very positive future.'"

Yes, very good news. I had serious doubts about him before but have seen enough this year to be convinced that he's a quality player.

When he was at a Worcester Cricket Society night, during the close season immediatly after the departure of GAH Mat Mason spoke very highly of him.

Just to help set the record straight on this one, players out of contract this year are Ben Smith, Matt Mason, Chris Russell, Imran Arif and Gareth Andrew. Alexei was contracted to 2012 so his news is an extension of an existing contract. Young players like Moeen Ali, Ben Cox, Richard Jones, Jack Shantry and Aneesh Kapil are all contracted beyond this season.

Neil Pinner, Matt Pardoe and Joe Leach are all scholarship players this year.

FYI every County lodges its list of registered players by 7th April each year with the ECB and each other. Those lists highlight which players around the country are in the final year of their contracts so we all have full knowledge of players in that situation.

Thank you for the clarification. Are there any other potential prospects out of contract at the end of summer ala Richardson who you have your eye on ?

And just a thought, but if clubs knew who would be out of contract for this season but didn't sign them for one reason or another, what was the point of the Unicorns which is supposed to be a 'showcase' ? Thanks.

Couldn't possibly comment on your first question! Morgan and Pietersen are NOT on our radar!

You could argue that Unicorns have served their purpose given the Durston situation and shown they could have a role to play in future.

After coming bottom of the T20 and now 0-6 in 40 overs (conceding largest ever total and our biggest ever loss) I hope that you'll be digging that list out at 9am tomorrow morning and hitting the phones. And perhaps I was a little harsh on the Unicorns, they might provide options for us too.
