GAH on Tufnell's cricket show on Five Live tonight. Will be available on listen again. Missed mist of it myself, but he did talk a bit about when he knew it was time to retire.

Quite how does the name `Tuffnell` qualify the title of legend on on of our pages.I have always considered him a loose-mouthed average cricket whose main claim to so-called fame was a an alleged wife-basher,cosier -up to jungle bunnies and a most annoying commenter on crcket issues.
TheHeros on here have properly been limited to the likes of The Don,Tom,Dolly,Both and Graeme although going back abit ,I`d also include Jenky,Howorth and Reg Perks! And WBB would certainly find a Plant For his ROB ......and be well entitled to do so!!!!!
Enough, please of these Southern publicity seekers who use our game only to prolong their so-called show-biz fame.A pox on all their houses.......

Should have read the post properly ,of course,astlytm- so
please forgive me.But my sentiment stands on the twat that `interviewed` him and the so easily award `greatness` sport/showbiz accords to no-marks these days.

Fair comment, Rupert, Tufnell isn't the most informative broadcaster, however I'd still rather listen to him than Blofeld or possibly the increasingly rambling and error prone CMJ, whose long innings must surely be drawing to a close. Simon Hughes annoys me, but I can't quite work out why. Does he try too hard?
Tufnells celebrity status still a drop in a very large ocean compared to the "celebrity culture" that grips much of our tabloid newspapers, radio and television these days.
Very little depresses or annoys me more than people of no discernable talent whose only ambition is to be a "celebrity". Celebrated for doing what? Nothing, just being a "celebrity". Bah, humbug.

No worries, I was stuggling to post it from my iPhone, so it was a bit on the condensed side.

I'll have to stand up for Blofeld though, there are too many bland commentators in sport and he adds his character to it. The only one I really don't care for is Alec Stewart, too keen to talk up the players he's an agent for in my opinion!

It was when Worcs were playing Glos at Cheltenham 2 years ago that Hicky decided to retire. Do you remember? Solanki scored 270 ish, and Kabir Ali and Simon Jones demolished them. Hick went in with masses on the board and realised that he was not bothered when he was out and that was the time to retire. I did not know that at the time of course. i do remember that day, though, and watching him tuck into his butties - you can see the players in the pavilion at Cheltenham! - and thinking how he is mortal - he has to eat like the rest of us...

How WCCC's fortunes have changed in the two years since that match.
